No, this blog post is not about fair trade or fair treatment of people…it is about Denmark’s largest meetings and events fair that I visited this week.
The fair (in Danish: Møde & Event Messen) takes place every year for two days in March, and it gathers the entire meetings and events industry with exhibitors like venues, destinations, tech companies, caterers and event agencies.
I have been in this industry for almost 20 years and have attended the fair many, many times, and I spent most of my time there networking with all the wonderful people I know in this business. They represent venues I have used or will use in the future, people I know from events and organized networking groups in the Danish meetings industry, and those I know merely from online communities like LinkedIn and Instagram. And it is always great to match a face to the name.
Naturally, I also visit exhibitors I don’t know yet to learn what they have to offer. There are new exhibitors every year and this year was no exception – the list of exhibitors this year included companies that sell speaker gifts etc., those who decorate your meeting room with furniture or plants, and those who can make goodie bag favors for your delegates.
Besides the exhibit itself there is an extensive program of speakers who address the meetings and events industry from all angles. This goes on on the main stage. Furthermore, there is an Inspiration Lounge where you can listen to shorter presentations from our industry – usually in a more interactive way.
At the end of day one, Kursuslex, who is the organizer of the fair, throw an impressive award show where the nominees have been selected from a wide range of input from the industry and the winners chosen by an independent jury.
The show is hosted by a Danish celebrity who guides the audience through the nominees and winners in the 8 categories. This year the host was entertainer Michael Carøe who also sang a few songs at the show. He invited the incredibly talented Andrea Oehlenschlæger on stage, and what a treat! She is only 19 years old but she sang me to tears and goose bumps. Book her for your next event now before her schedule gets packed!
It is always fantastic to attend the fair, meet industry colleagues, and be inspired. And at Kursuslex I am sure they know that I will definitely be back next year :o)
PS: The video above doesn’t do Andrea enough justice…really! It is shot with my iPhone towards a stage with lots of light. Sorry guys ;o) But I am sure you get the essence of Andrea’s talent.
